What it's like to live in Metrotown.

Metrotown is Burnaby’s busiest town centre and the most vertical neighbourhood in the city. Condo towers rise directly above Metropolis at Metrotown and the SkyTrain station, while the quieter Maywood and Sussex-Nelson blocks hold older low-rise apartments and the last of the single-family streets.

It is the easiest place in Burnaby to live without a car, and the hardest place in Burnaby to find a detached home.

Commute

Metrotown station is on the Expo Line, roughly 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver with no transfer. Kingsway and Willingdon carry most of the road traffic.

Mostly condos – everything from older walk-ups in Maywood to new high-rises above the mall. Detached homes exist on the edges but the supply shrinks every year.
It is one of the strongest options in Burnaby. The widest range of price points in the city, and transit at the door, which tends to protect resale.
About 20 minutes on the Expo Line from Metrotown station, with no transfer.
Rental demand is high year round, driven by transit, the mall and nearby campuses. Check each building’s rental and pet rules before you write an offer – they vary a lot.
Maywood is the older low-rise pocket south of the mall. Sussex-Nelson sits closer to the station and has taken most of the new tower development.
